One of my fav T-shirts is of a cartoon very very very flat cat captioned “Not Today” by artist Justyna Dorsz. I would have featured Justyna’s image, but it is under copyright, not available via Creative Commons or other free-to-use licensing (such as the Pexels website). I would have pursued a request to feature her copyrighted creation here, but I just don’t have the bandwidth. I’m in the grips of a nasty cold, feeling kinda like the cat above. Tired kitty.
It took me 20 minutes to choose that image. Maybe decision fatigue?
You don’t need to process a rejection as soon as it comes across your desk or screen. It’ll still be there tomorrow. If you’re already at the end of a long day/week/month when the decline notification comes in, maybe just put it aside until the next day when you’re fresher (?)
Another way of taking the sting out of rejection, I suppose, is to say, “Not Today.”
Next time: Taking the sting out of rejection, Part Three.
