When we say we’re “running on fumes,” we mean we don’t have much gas in the tank, referring to those old-fashioned cars that use petroleum. With the advent of electric vehicles (EVs) way back in the 1890s, half a dozen people were known to say they had “no charge in the battery.” Not sure that phrasing really caught on, but maybe those EVs will…
When the Inlandia 100 Rejections Club met virtually on Friday, our fearless leader noted a certain lack of va-va-voom.
She said that few folks in the club had reported rejections on our Trello board in November. Someone mentioned he was awaiting results on several submissions. I whined that with one teeny tiny acceptance, I had to withdraw the piece from several places that could have resulted in juicy rejections. Demonstrating yet again why she is our fearless leader, Cati brainstormed a new card on the Trello board where we can list submissions every month. That way we can continue to feel the momentum while drumming our fingers awaiting those rejections.
There was also the unspoken issue related to a lack of zoomies, at least in my house. This time of year, I don’t have as much energy to continue on my works in progress. When I don’t have completed somethings to submit, I don’t have things in the cue for rejection.
After pushing to complete the fall issue of the online journal (launched just 3 weeks ago!), nursing kiddo and myself through inevitable head colds post-events, and gearing up for winter holiday celebrations, it’s time to rest.
Sometimes it’s okay to take a break for a week or two. Give yourself time to recharge and return to your works in progress refreshed. You just might surprise yourself with a renewed perspective.
Next time…
