It’s too hot to think. Er, to think deeply about Inlandia’s 100 Rejections Club, so let’s catch up on what’s happening now.
Our Online Journal
Inlandia: A Literary Journey is open for submissions toward the fall issue throughout September. Please note, this time we’re capping submissions by category: art at 100, creative nonfiction at 50, fiction at 50, and poetry at 100. As of the end of the first week, we’ve already received 39 poems, so be sure to get your beautiful creations submitted before it’s too late!
SmallStack on Substack
Did I update all you lovely 100 Rejections Club newsletter subscribers about my 6-month gig with SmallStack? No?!? Oops… I blame the June heat dome for forgetting. Anywho, I was selected at the end of June to join SmallStack as part of the first cohort to help create and refine various processes from July through December.
The mission of SmallStack is to build a searchable library of smaller (fewer than 1,000 subscribers) Substacks with an emphasis on those with fewer than 500 subscribers. (Read about the origins of SmallStack over here.) Along the way, we’ve been publishing biweekly Guest Posts and preparing to have weekly Featured Posts to shine a light on those itty-bitty Substacks (like this one here) starting at the end of the month, which is…
SmallStack Library Launch Week
Every day of Launch Week — September 23–29 — SmallStack will share a hand-picked Featured Post from the Library. (Psst! Two of them are my picks.)
SmallStack Guest Posts Series
As part of the editorial team, I’ve had the pleasure of putting my paws on everything from reviewing pitches to copyediting drafts, to formatting and publishing Guest Posts. (Plus formulating editorial flow and refining guidelines as well as chatting about serial commas, author voice, revision limits, plagiarism checkers, and lots of other fun stuff!)
Right now I’m collaborating with a former baker and current columnist whose Guest Post is slated for publication September 18th. Before then, check out other contributions to the series. And if you have your own Substack, consider pitching when the call reopens.
Seed Pods for Substack Creators
SmallStack has created a way for groups of creators on Substack to support and promote each other. It’s called Seed Pods! The first one hosted by SmallStack runs September 2–22, and the theme is Libraries. If you’re publishing on Substack, join the fun!
Next time: Libraries + Librarians are great resources for researching your next creative project (a Seed Pod collaboration)
P.S. SoCal has been under a heat dome for nearly a week, with triple-digit highs and crunchy air quality. It might cool down midweek.
Thanks for the reminder about the seed pod! I’ve been having a week (hem) and forgot, but I have lots of library news on my Substack. So I entered the pod today. I hope I can connect with other library lovers. And—great news about the submissions to Inlandia! yay!
